Trinamul gears up for Manipur polls
The Telegraph | Imphal, Nov. 9:
Trinamul Congress, the newest political party in Manipur, is gearing up to play a major role in the formation of the government after the Assembly elections, likely to take place in February next year.
Sources said party leaders like Mamata Banerjee and D.K. Singh, in-charge of Manipur, wanted the Trinamul Congress to contest from at least 40 constituencies out of the existing 60.
However, the state unit of the party was working on fielding about 30 candidates.
“There are many, including heavyweights, who want our party ticket, both in the hills and the valley. But we are not fielding candidates here and there. We will be very cautious while choosing candidates and only select ones will be fielded. The number would be between 20 to 30,” state unit president Kim Gangte told this correspondent.
