To The Educated Youths Of Manipur
C. Thangminlal Doungel *
If Education was meant to remove the lump in the eyes, I believe the so called educated students in the state would not be protesting aimlessly for the implementation of ILP in Manipur, because they would vividly see the misplaced intention behind the Bills.
Although I applaud the sense of patriotism exerted amongst the youths, I will not hesitate at the same time to condemn their lack of vision and short sightedness towards the impending doom if these Bills are assented by his Excellency, the President of India.
I am very sorry to point out that our depth of education stops at the means to achieve our own ends. We have become so greedy and least concern about the value of 'life/lives' as long as it serves our purpose. Our intense greed seem to dislodge altogether the humane side of us which is the only thread that binds us all.
What have we contributed to better our land, "The Jewel of India" to make it livable? I see nothing, but destruction, chaos and confusion.
Are we not ashamed of the ruins our predecessor’s actions had already caused? Are we again going to be the generation of dump students to bear the torch of turmoil, and to help perpetuate these miseries, despite claiming ourselves to be educated? What has the bandhs and strikes alongside the killings brought us? Nothing, but only tears and hurt, gloom and misery. Enough is enough!
It's high time to cross-check and reprimand our own action if we claim to be educated. Education is not only the head knowledge and the certificates that we proudly flaunt around, but respecting one's rights, space and loving one's neighbor also counts out of the many.
And the only way towards peaceful and amicable solution to all problems lies in imbibing these simple etiquette's, which in my opinion, our education seemed deprived of.
Dialectics of various nature in the society are bound to happen. And in fact conflicts are at times a tool to construct a stronger bond and coherence in the society, but this is not the case in our state anymore looking at the present discourse.
All these dilemmas seem to have no stoppage, and there is no sign of panacea out of these doldrums any sooner. And the apathy of the center by deliberately turning a deaf ears to our plight is absurd.
Therefore, we the educated youths are instrumental in sensitizing our people and making them understand the dark side of the Bills even if our leaders won't, and deliberately choose to abstain ourselves from petty riots and unethical protest.
Let us, the educated therefore not be mindlessly hostile by adding unnecessary fuel to the fire any further, but help prevent this cloud of misfortune from escalating into a deeper backlash.
And we could do so, by using our intellect to scale and weight our own acts without any biases against the 3 Bills, by allowing it to percolate into our minds.
Bandhs and strikes aren't the right tools to bring in solutions to this conundrum. If it was so, these problems would not have permeated this far.
But consultations, dialogues and political will can, which our leaders have deliberately chosen not to. And now, do we have the patience to at least think about this?
I Love My State as Much as you do!
Yours truly
