Time to tell them to pack up : Of rabble rousers
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: September 15 2015 -
Rabble rousers. Trouble makers. And yes they are the ones who always seem to be in the limelight.
It could be a case of all the well intentioned voices going silent or it could mean that those who mean well and do speak sense are seldom heard and not given the due importance.
Either way it sucks and says something rotten about the society as a whole.
This is Manipur and this could be one reason why the place and the people are nowhere in the race of development.
Just take a look around and the truth should be more than obvious.
So while other parts of the country and the world are marching ahead, receiving the impact of modernisation and reaping the dividends of all that the modern world has to offer, Manipur continues to lag behind.
This could be one factor of why accountability just does not exist in the lexicon of the Government and all those who occupy key positions.
A free for all, it is. So while students across the country and other parts of the world are putting in their best efforts under the conviction that today’s world has no room for mediocrity, here uncertainty is the term that comes to mind whenever one talks about the conditions of students.
Instead of attending classes and taking up activities which are ideally suited for students, we see young men and women taking to the streets on issues which should ideally be adult affairs.
This says something about a society which has never hesitated in using students to pursue an agenda or two and there is nothing to trumpet about this.
The people need to wake up to the presence of such elements, or else the problems which Manipur see regularly will continue.
Time to tell these pretenders that they should no longer continue hoodwinking the public, just for their moments under the sun.
Moreover it is also true that most of these elements come to the fore by playing with the emotions of the people. This is not how society will progress.
Let it be clear that in giving them enough space, the people are playing with the future of the youngsters.
Worshipping false heroes, this is what this column has always asserted against and unfortunately it is the false heroes who continue to mess with the future of the land and the youngsters.
Time for all the right thinking people to come together and resolve not to give such elements any opportunity.
This is what is expected from the responsible citizens of the land. The silence of the majority can only mean the loss of the land and the people.
Time to show the rabble rousers and the trouble makers where they belong.
For too long they have been given the long rope to play havoc with the lives and future of everyone, especially the youngsters.
