The Train Whizzing Down the Track
K. Radhakumar *
Friends!
Enough for me
Just to be here
Among my fellow passengers.
I'll get off at a station.
So are you.
I don't know the name of the station;
I have no idea if it's far or near.
That's the wonder of being a passenger
On this train –
You don't know when you'll get off it.
Time flies.
So is the train.
There's no time
To hurt the feelings of my fellow passengers.
How many of your friends are still alive?
Childhood friends, playmates, classmates –
Friends of the past and of my youth
When I was a romantic at heart!
Obscenity !
Let it go in one ear
And out the other.
Ask yourself:
Can I be of service to anyone?
Share your pizza with your neighbour
Your brother and your sister.
Your charity work should not be
Just one big ego-trip.
Many passengers grow angry
When the journey time's is up,
They feel they are not prepared
For the final destination.
Nothing makes me angry these days,
I see things through the eyes of other people.
I am conscious of my humility
To acknowledge my own imperfections.
