The Reason
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Padmakumar *
The rising sun
All bright all clear
I saw him one day
On the way to school.
So very beautiful it was that
I felt a new earth
Not the one I was familiar with
Had woken up and stood there
And I made eye contact with what I saw.
My close relatives
My parents and all mankind
Went inside a dark cave
And got vanished one after another.
Still looking still wondering
I found myself immersed
In the unfathomable depths of beauty.
The sun shone, and still shines,
Not at all showing signs of age
And the sacred ray of light is worthy of obeisance,
I should think.
In the post-harvest field
High on a pile of straws
While lying face up
I saw the perfect white moon
There in the infinite sky
There in the blue paradise.
Within moments
When I looked at the sky decked out in moon
I was not able to take my eyes off it –
The sky spread and spread its horizon
Bigger and bigger it grew;
Smaller and smaller I became
And ultimately got lost in a dot.
The sight was a pleasure to me and I wish
Other people should also have the pleasure of seeing it.
They also should be pleased
To the core.
Well, this is something very personal and unique to me?
I am blessed if I know
Born I am with something unique to myself in this life
And this is not a gift from my ancestors.
A something from the far-off days
From other births
From the beginning
Cloaked in a shroud of darkness.
On the occasion of the two incidents
I had a profound impact
Of that dark realms.
Those who were close
Farther and farther they went,
And those who were distant
Nearer and nearer they came,
More and more attracted
As in a magnetic field
That we came across in the darkness.
