The Patient
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
I live for a rose.
Yes, a rose
Beyond the pink rose in the garden.
There's always
A rose beyond the rose.
One full-sized flower,
A complete entity!
Most of the time
It is not shaping at all
But strangely disturbing.
Sometimes I can just distinguish a shape
Like a formless dream
More real than the corporeal existence
And it has enticed me away
From the garden with roses.
The flowers outside my window!
I'm sorry these are spring flowers
The herald of a diabetic spring.
I hum and haw, trying to express
What life is
And what I am born for.
I reserve my judgement
Until I hear myself sing out.
Life is a series of disconnected events,
Just drifting towards death.
I wish I could rise early with the sun
And shed the trite, old skin
Of a life under lived.
Some life!
I wish I could greet a fresh dawn!
Good morning, sweet.
Another beautiful day.
Or the dawn murmurs,
'You've never seen the rose in the horizon.
You haven't lived.'
Yes, I haven't lived.
One day I will
But not yet
Not yet.
