The Nymph of Kangleipak
Moirangthem Minakshi Devi *
A gay morning, the sun peeps in through the iron-mage of the window,
Falls on tender face of the nymph that lay asleep.
Her hair so lucent, teased her eyes,
She woke up apace, realising her dues.
The local young 'Leishabi' as I call,
She fondle her siblings and care for her old parent.
She is a daughter, a sister and a lover,
A fragile being, with a tender soul of purity.
Her day begins by brewing black tea with a hint of lime, with love,
Doing her chores and hit the college afar.
She blithely hugs her lady friends,
And seen to bask the sun in the open field.
Evening comes, she meets her lad, with whom she knits her future dreams:
She sings a lay for him, he who is soon to be her consort.
Her muliebrity and beauty are adorned by all.
But she stays loyal to one, that is her Swain.
She head for her home just ere the dusk:
Lits aromatic incense-sticks whose fragrance fills the air.
She lay a prayer, a prayer for peace and well-being for her family.
That nymph is a daughter, a sister and a lover.
