The Losers
K. Radhakumar *
The dawn dew conjures up
The image of a ship sailing
All alone
And into no harbour.
No companions.
The old house stands empty
With no charm and character.
Afternoons are no different.
Clouds sail across the sky
And from nowhere
I see a ship sailing
All alone
And into no harbour.
In the bar, the usuals.
It appears I do not grow emotionally
For I miss the companionship and compassion
Of my parents
Long dead and buried.
People's lives get compartmentalized,
And there is virtually no communication
Between my neighbour and I.
We exchange hellos
And smile forced smiles.
The evening seems to be conflicting
And at night
Before I go to bed
I try to drown my loneliness;
I always end up drunk and disorderly.
