The Hut Dimly Seen
K. Padmakumar *
What a lovely dawn!
The crescent moon shines above the bamboo grove
Quietly in the eastern sky
With four or five stars nearby.
At this point in time when the dawn breaks,
On the brink of light and shade,
I have just had a thought -
One day when the small load of life will be unloaded,
I would not want to reach the hut dimly seen,
I should think.
What is behind is long, and what is ahead is short
And the path of life is narrowing down,
Is narrowing down day by day;
And it appears there is not a soul in sight.
It is a pity my looks, not handsome but lovely
Which I am aware of since the childhood days
Will be lost, and my lovely name stuck in my make-up
Since I took first steps with mother will be forgotten.
