The Headline Story
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Butterflies brightly coloured butterflies
Feed on the beautiful garden flowers.
Birds catch butterflies
And devour everything,
Antenna wings legs.
Everything in the garden is rosy!
No.
Far from it.
The fat rat that was running for life
A minute ago, oh! just a minute ago
Is poisoned by the fangs of the long snake
And then simply crush prey in its jaws
And lies coiled up in the grass.
Are animals able to think?
Are humans the only animals
To have developed speech?
Yes, we are.
We have our Shakespeare.
We also have Picasso
And his 'Violin and Guitar',
Revealing objects as they are known
Not as they appear momentarily
From a single position.
Man!
'A thinking thing.'
People belonging to one tribe
Speaking a tongue different from another tribe
Is caught and beheaded;
The latter tribe retaliates.
Neither side is shocked
By the ferocity of the attack and its counterattack.
They run this story under the headline
'Genocide at last!'
