The Flowering of the Day
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
The morning star has just vanished;
The sun appears on the horizon,
And smiles at the world
And the world smiles back.
What an incredible view!
A quiet and serene sky -
I can hear myself think.
I also can hear little birds
Chirping away merrily,
Merrily in the nearby trees.
Birds in the trees sing
And make obeisance
To the glory of the sunrise
Of the new life
Of the new day.
It makes me feel good to know
Everyday is a new day.
The early morning bursts into bloom
As if in answer to the birds' prayer.
The old are dead
And the young born.
Yes, birth and death.
What of it?
At this moment in time
We, the garden sunflower and I,
Have seen and smelt birth and death
When the morning star has just vanished.
The sunflower turns and faces east at sunrise;
It stands tall to the midday sun
And turns and faces west at sunset.
Strolling along the path through the garden
Under the darkling sky
I know with my whole being
I do not feel a complete fool
To be one with my tall friend
Of the garden.
I am happy I was born here
And born naked -
No name, no religion, no politics -
I put on make-up later on.
I am happy I was born stark naked.
I am happy
I can sing the glory of the morning
I am happy I can do some good things
And avoid doing some bad things.
What a golden chance!
All sunsets are spectacular.
It is sweet just to look at the setting sun
Just to see the sun having a bath in the seas
Or half-hiding behind the hills.
There is no yesterday nor tomorrow
There is just now
Just looking at the setting sun
And think of nothing.
I will not mind to take a break
For a well-earned rest
Till the next dawn.
When the moment comes I will say
Looking at you straight in the eyes
I am happy I met you
And we were husband and wife.
