The Evening Star
K. Radhakumar *
A line
From the depths of my soul
That's exactly what my poem is.
It wears no make-up
And stands stark naked before you and I.
There is no hidden meaning
And is no different from my life.
I used to ask
What life is
And who I am.
I felt duty-bound to ask
And find answers to the questions.
No longer do I
Not because I do not ask questions to the end
But because I do not know why
I asked the questions:
There is no charm in being naked
Before a blind person.
To get at the truth
The whole truth
This is my mission in life now.
Terrorism has taken roots
And innocent lives are not safe.
There is no connecting door
Between yesterday and today.
All colour has faded from life;
Life's goodness does not shine through.
Nothing lasts except the truth.
Quite flows the Nambul rivulet
Rolling with the punches –
Ultimately, it enters the Loktak lake.
