Teenage Blues
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
In my late teens
I had a huge crush on a girl.
In the morning sunshine
I hummed a tune
Welcoming the new world
For the world was simply beautiful.
The girl shook her short, curly locks
In appreciation of my weakness
And people saw her down the shops
A cosy smile playing on her face.
Though I Do Not Hear Nightingales Sing
No nightingales chant here.
No rain.
No pink roses.
Jobseeker's Allowance!
I take a coin out of my purse
(Does it shrink to my touch?)
And have a drink of water.
At home
I am overwhelmed
By my mother's concern,
The milk of human kindness
And sing a song
I learnt at mother's knee:
The world is your oyster.
