TSA-GHQ endorses total shut-down of 20th Oct
18th October, 2016
The Thadou Students’ Association - General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) fully endorses the total shut-down announced by All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur which will commence on 20th October midnight and continue till 21st Oct. midnight and will enforce it in areas of Manipur where TSA operates. TSA unequivocally supports the just demand of the tribal students for reservation in Manipur University proportionate to tribal population in Manipur.
The Academic Council of the Manipur University misinterpreted the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006 and the subsequent Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 as two entirely different acts, ignoring the provisions in the Amendment Act.
Provisions of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 for proportional reservation norms states that specified north east region including Manipur have to implement the state seats (in reservation policy) i.e., 31% for STs, 2% for SCs and 17% for OBCs.
TSA-GHQ strongly condemns the decision of the Academic Council against the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012 and High Court directive.
We urges the authority concerned to intervene at the soonest in order to save the sanctity of the university and right the wrong. The authority concerned should settle the lingering issue once and for all, ensuring justice is delivered to the tribals in Manipur University, which, sadly, has become a den of communal politics and infested with vested interests.
