Suu Kyi favours peaceful settlement with Nagas
Nagaland Post | IANS | New Delhi, Oct 7 ()
Eyeing a resounding victory in next month’s historic polls, Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi has questioned the secrecy surrounding an operation against Naga militants along Indo-Myanmar border by the Indian army and said she will ensure transparency in such exercises if voted to power.
“India has to work to come to a peaceful settlement with the Nagas. And we (Myanmar) have got to work to come to a peaceful settlement with those who are on the border,” Suu Kyi said, ahead of elections on November 8. Disapproving of the secrecy maintained in the operation by Indian armed forces in June, she said transparency was a must as lack of it creates suspicion, which “erodes” foundation of friendship.
