Nagaland Post | Imphal, Dec 22
The winter session of Manipur Assembly, the last session of the current term Thursday, was dominated by debates on centre’s reported proposal for making a ‘Supra-state body’ status for Nagas in Northeast and opening of Naga People’s Front (NPF) unit in the state.
Opposition members raised the issues as call attention motions in the House. While raising the motions, the opposition insisted the House to adopt a resolution objecting centre’s any move to hurt the interest of Manipur territorial integrity and furnish it to the Centre. Opposition member O Joy Singh of MPP (Manipur People’s Party) observed the need for monitoring the development of Government of India’s negotiation with NSCN (I-M).
On the question of constitutional validly of opening NPF unit in Manipur’s Senapati district during the current year, the Chief minister said that government had sought a status of the NPF as a recognized political party from the Election Commission of India. “I hope ECI will return a reply within the next two or three days.”
