The Institute of Mathematical Sciences invites applications from highly
motivated bachelor's and master's students for the Institute's Summer
Student Programme in Physics.
Students currently studying in their pre-final or final year of BSc or
first year MSc or equivalent with excellent grades are encouraged to
apply, along with at least one letter of recomendation.
The project duration is for 6 weeks in the period from May 15th to July
15th 2003.
Selected students will be paid 2nd class round trip train fare plus Rs.
100 per diem and be provided free hostel accomodation on campus. Selected
students will have an opportunity to pursue research-level studies in
areas of interest at the Institute including Condensed Matter Physics and
Statistical Mechanics; Complex Systems; High Energy Physics including
lattice gauge theory, phenomenology, quantum field theory, string theory;
Foundations of quantum theory; Non-commutative Geometry and quantum
gravity; Mathematical Physics including group theory, quantum computation;
Non-linear Dynamics; Computational Physics; Laser Optics Experiments and
Quantum Information; Theoretical Biology , including membranes,
microtubules, neuron dynamics, non-linear dynamics of the heart, protein
folding.
