Studying the pay of private school teachers : Parents paying double
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: December 28 2015 -
In a few days time from now, Manipur, like the rest of the world, will be welcoming the new year.
Resolutions will be made and surely most of the resolutions will be broken.
This is at the personal level, but can Manipur really afford to continue being fickle minded without looking into the future ?
Time to seriously introspect on where the people and the place are headed towards.
Does not seem pressing at the moment, but the people can only afford to continue ignoring the state of education at their own peril.
Private schools-these are the institutions which have been producing the best brains in the State for decades now and it is only right that some thoughts are given to these schools.
Parents and guardians would do well to give some thought on why private tuitions have become indispensable for their children these days.
Is it a case of the parents wanting something special for their children or is it a case of their children not imbibing what is being taught inside the classrooms ?
Questions may also be raised on how sincerely teachers teach the students inside the classrooms of the respective schools.
More importantly there is also the need to question whether private school teachers are adequately being paid for the job they dispense with in the school.
Are parents and guardians indirectly making up for the shortfall of the salary that teachers in private schools receive ?
Let us take a look at the reality. Private school teachers are paid pittance or very low salary.
To make both ends meet, teachers have to fall back on private tuitions.
The result is they are not able to give their very best inside the classrooms.
This in effect means that parents and guardians have to pay double for the education of their children-one as school fees and the other as private tuition fees.
It is a matter of concern that while this practise has been in vogue for many, many years now, not much thought has been given to the reality.
Pay the private school teachers well.
Or at least make their pay and salary attractive that it attracts more talent.
This way they will be more motivated to give their very best inside the classrooms and not reserve their best for the private tuition classes.
This can go a long way in easing the burden on the parents and guardians.
Let some efforts be made to streamline the salary of private school teachers from the next academic session.
This will definitely help everyone and there will also be a marked improvement in the standard of all the schools in Manipur.
