One should be very carefull regarding study of MBBS abroad. Especially the person with whom you are going to deal. Even in case of counseling institute their claims and authenticity should be crossed checked inorder to avoid misguidance.
Past records of enrolled students should be ask to be shown so as to clarify that the counseling institute has infact admitted students in proper manner and without any inconveniences. One can even request the LETTER OF TRUST OR AUTHORISATION LETTER given to the counseling institute by the university to be produce as proof.Four/five years back fraudulent cases had been reported in TIMES OF INDIA and HINDU.
Certain facts/rules®ulations needed to know about MCI and its eligibility criteria for taking admission in and undergraduate medical course in a foreign medical institution. According to Part iii, section 4 of the Gazettee of India, ExtraOrdinary issue dated the 18th Feb,2002(
www.mciindia.org )
1. He/She should be a citizen of India, shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December.
2. Passed 10+2 higher secondary exam with English as one of the subject.
3. Must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate(physics, chemistry and biology). 40% for SC,ST and OBC.
4. Allowed to appear in the Screening test(after completion of MBBS or Primary Medical Qualification or Any medical qualification equivalent to MBBS) if the students have applied to and obtained from MCI the ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE.
5. MBBS OR PRIMARY MEDICAL QUALIFICATION(PMQ) OR ANY MEDICAL QUALIFICATION EQUIVALENT TO MBBS issued by the institution should be a recognized qualification for enrollment as medical practitioner in the country in which the institution is situated.
E.g i. West China University of Medical Sciences,Chengdu,China,ii. AIIMS, RIMS etc in India.iii. Sun Yet-Sen or Zhongshan University, in China.
6. Institution should be in the World Directory of Medical Schools.published by the WHO.eg. AIIMS,AFMC,WCUMS,SUN YET-SEN UNIVERSITY etc.
7. Screening test shall be conducted twice every year.
8. There shall not be any restriction on the number of attempts to appear in the test.(Lt Col. Dr ARN Setalvad,Secretary ,MCI).
9. MCI or State Medical Council shall issue provisional registration to successful candidates, who are yet to undergo one(1)year internship and issue permanent registration who have already undergone one(1) year internship in any approved institution.
10. Screening test comprises of three(3) papers of MCQ’S for three(3)hours duration. A. Pre clinical B. Para Clinical C. Clinical Medicine.
11. A candidate shall be declared as having passed only if he/she obtained minimum of 50% marks in each paper separately.
(Manipuri students who have obtained MBBS from Russia are working in RIMS and also there are many Indian & Nepali students who have passed the respective countries screening test and working within the country or abroad). So it’s not a rejection process but screening off sub-standard students if any.
In order to prepare for this exam one need not go to the depth as like that of appearing PG entrance exam. Indian students who have acquired MBBS from Nepal have also cleared the exam. Exact number of students passing out every year may be obtained from MCI. So, why students from other countries like China have difficulty, whose ranking in the world has gone to 5-6th place in Medical.
12. Above rules and regulations do not apply to students, who may have joined undergraduate medical course in foreign countries recognized and included in the second scheduled under section 12 of the Indian Medical Council Act,1. that is qualification falling under the reciprocity scheme.
13. Reputed institution like MCI do not search for medical institution or it’s beyond their present norms to locate institutions abroad and give recognition.
The case is the same with other countries medical council. Even International medical Council and WHO clearly mentions in their publications that the enlistation is not in any way to offer/confer any recognition. Syllabus everywhere in the world are almost the same except for few topics for mankind irrespective of yellow, white or black human anatomy is the same and so their physiology, biochemistryetc.
Syllabus studied in China, please compare with that of MCI:-
A. SUBJECTS FOR THE FIRST 2 YEAR
Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Histology, Embryology, Pathology, Pathophysiosogy, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Clinical Epidemiology and Clinical Research Desigh ( Community Medicine)
B. SUBJECTS FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS
General medicine, General Surgery, Obsterics And Gynecology, Forensic Medicine, Clinical Epidemiology And Clinical Research Design (Community Medicine), Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryncology(Ent) Ophthalmology. Orthopedics, Dentistry. Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Nuclear Medicine, Emergency Medicine and other allied medical and surgical specialities and sub-specialties.
Major differences in syllabus(in some colleges) are due to inclusion of Chinese language,2-3 classes in a week. This will help students in due course of time to deal with the patients better and also in case some student wants to settle in China.
All patients do not speak English either in Manipur or Karnataka or Tamil Nadu still outsiders to these places learn MBBS. For practical 3-4 students get one dead body.
We all are aware of boarding arrangement at RIMS, Lady Hardinge, AIIMS, Manipal(Mangalore), JNU , IITTM etc. I had been to China and observed that students are staying in apartment type accommodation with each flat consisting of three bedrooms (AC, landline) , common waiting room ( TV,Fridge) and western syle spacious attach rest room with a washing machine. All these with Rs 2000/- per month.
For fooding every meal around forty(40) different dishes(oriental and continental) both veg/non-veg (non spicy)are served in buffet style(but not daal and roti) @ of Rs 2250/- per month including breakfast and evening snacks. Separate mess for Muslims.
This year too around thirteen students have taken up the admission in China. Most of the parents(many doctors,Govt. employee and few business man) had visited the institutions where their wards are studying. Their opinions will be precious.
In todays' globalised world why should not our students get a platform from where they can get much of the latest technology Eg Gamma Knife etc. students from AIIMS ,RIMS ,WCUMS,SUN YET-SEN etc can appear for US-MLE and UK–PLAB so what is the difference. Let's be indian by heart at the same time lets grap the latest advancement in this field happening around the world.
