Strange Fruit
Omila Thounaojam *
Have you tasted the Strange fruit?
The killer fragrance and the hypnotic juice
One bite of it that one yearns for
The die for flesh that creates bloodsheds
The wars, the killings, the exploitations
What for?
But to be the owner of the Strange fruit
The desires that are aroused
Watered to it by the dry air of selfish greed
The insatiable thirst for power, the question
About how a mortal can be immortalized
The strange fruit, adorn with answers
Alternate realities
Mixed with soil, tears and blood
Innocent lives crucified for hollow causes
The never ending tug of war for throne
The fall, the final drop that's all
Oh Strange fruit!
The Godly creation to test us
Is seldom prized for its true worth
Poorest of the poor are we
Oh mankind! Redeem yourself
Now or else we'll ebb forever.
