Stepbrother
Bishwajit Khumukcham *
Oh! How beautiful these hills are!
The cool breeze blowing across the faces,
The greens and the smiles around,
The valley below, the clouds above,
All below the clear blue sky and the starry night
Heaven blessed spring, summer, autumn and winter,
Rain, sun, lakes and fields
The brotherly love and the respect between.
And then you came in,
With golden promises and fake papers,
Honeyed words and the fake smiles
Claiming to be our brother, the lost one.
We believe we could stand alone,
You said we needed your help,
The band of brothers, we joined.
Now when we need help
You treat us, like we never existed
When we visit you, you look at us
Like we belong to another species
Aliens with slanting eyes amongst the dark rounded ones.
You scream at my mother and touch my sisters
With the attitude, "You don't belong here."
Throwing momos which you were once eager to eat
What made you stoop so low, HUH??
