First Pitch Executive Director L. Somi Roy made a presentation on the accomplishments and culture of Manipur's sports history including its many athletic accomplishments starting with Polo and martial arts. He pointed to the prospects of Manipuri baseball as a link between South and Southeast Asian baseball. Spalding Baseball's Business Manager Robert Narvaez praised the surprising growth of the American national game in an unlikely part of the world in the Eastern Himalayas and pledged Spalding Baseball's gift of a glove for every baseball player in Manipur, plus balls. Internationally renowned documentary film director Mirra Bank was on hand to introduce her on-going film project on Manipuri baseball and to shoot the proceedings with her cameraman Vic Losick. Ms. Bank also introduced a short promotional film on Manipuri baseball called "Baseball Dreams" made by Dave Thoudam. *Submitted by US Manipur Baseball Project This article was webcasted on 23rd November 2005 |
