Songs lighten a dark hour
The Telegraph | Alipta Jena | Imphal, Jan 5
Snatches of a soulful Manipuri song and the light of a few candles in the winter gloom made passersby pause as they walked past a church in Imphal this evening. Stopping by the Manipur Baptist Church at Chingmeirong, they found musician Guru Rewben Mashangva with a mike and a guitar, singing Bob Dylan songs and Manipuri numbers on the pavement in front of Elle's bakery.
Oinam Doren, founder and director of Our Village Films, and some friends gathered here this evening to raise funds for the victims of the earthquake that jolted people out of their beds yesterday. Singer-musician Akhu Chingangbam of Imphal Talkies was returning home when the sound of Guru Rewben's familiar voice made him change track. On coming to know of the cause, Akhu decided to lend his voice as well.
