So far, so good
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
Today at noon
The sun suddenly falls from the sky.
It beggars belief
How the sun could have fallen
From such a height.
I do not know why
And there is no reason why
But fall it does.
I have seen the sun falling
Before my very eyes;
The wailing and weeping of a mother is heard
For she has just lost her only child
In a car accident.
Drunken driving, and
The end of a handsome, teen-aged boy.
What a sorry sight!
Oh, what a mess of things!
Life is a punishment
For a crime one has not committed;
An award given in recognition of
A work one has not done.
It defies interpretation
How the sun could have fallen from the sky
And things could have got this way.
Utterly senseless!
And my poor philosophy
In the form of a consoling arm
Around the shoulder of our wailing mother!
