The North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong is the nodal agency for the economic and social development of the North Eastern Region, which consists of the eight States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
Over the last thirty five years, NEC has been instrumental in setting in motion a new economic endeavour aimed at removing the basic handicaps that stood in the way of normal development. In keeping with this objective the North Eastern Council has taken up the noble task of training the unemployed youths of the region in job oriented vocations.
A "Students Interaction Program" was held in ITA Machkhowa, Guwahati where the students undergoing training under the NEC sponsored employment oriented training program interacted with the Mr. U.K. Sangma, IAS, Secretary NEC and Ms. Sherry Lalthangzo, Director (HRD&E) NEC.
The students attending the function are undergoing vocational training in various disciplines like Information Technology, BPO, Retail, Hospitality, Hair and Beauty Care and UPSC coaching in various empanelled institutions namely NEITCO, Jettwings, Sling Shot Solutions and Third Eye Education. Students undergoing the above training courses were more than 1000 in numbers.
In his address to the students Mr. U.K. Sangma, Secretary NEC, the Chief Guest of the event emphasised the need of such training programs in the changing economic scenario. Ms. Sherry Lalthangzo, Director (HRD&E) the Guest of Honour, in her address encouraged the students and told them to make full use of the opportunities of this training program and develop skills which would be of great use to them in their professional life.
Mr. U.K. Sangma, Secretary NEC, also handed over Certificates of appreciation to meritorious students if IT and BPO. He also handed over Training Kits to students of Hair and Beauty Care. The students of Hospitality put up a colourful and informative travel desk showcasing the rich tourism potential of North East India.
Mr. Arijit Bhattacharjee, Director, NEITCO, Mr. Sanjay Aditya Singh, Director Jettwings, Mr. Karthikeyan M., Director, Sling Shot Solutions and Mr. Anuj Kumar Paliwal, Director, Third Eye Education also spoke on the occasion and reiterated their commitment to impart world class training and guidance to all the students. Also present on the occasion were a large number of guests from the corporate sector and Press.
The event was well attended by students from various states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura undergoing the training programs in various institutions. Later, a colourful cultural program was presented where students showcased the dance and culture of their respective states. The North East Symphony Beats, a popular band also performed in the evening.
