Six Sangai calves born in Delhi Zoo
New Delhi, December 27 2013 :
Sangai : The endemic, rare and endangered Manipur Brow-antlered deer in February 2009
Six calves of the endangered Sangai deer were born in Delhi Zoo in the second week of December, a zoo official said Friday.
Several species of deer gave birth to 10 calves this month, of which six were Sangai offspring, National Zoological Park curator Riaz Ahmed Khan said on telephone.
Khan did not specify how many female Sangai deer gave birth to the calves.
"The six calves were born a week before. They are all in good health," Khan said.
It seems Delhi Zoo officials are in no hurry to announce this as the number of Sangai deer has been increasing here. Winter is also their breeding season.
