Silent hills, Silent valley
Nongthang Khaba *
Let's not talk about it
For I hate it to the core
Silence, silence, everywhere
Where have gone
All the mortal ones
I can not see them
I can not feel them
Except silence.
Silence I feel is extraordinary
So deafening
And hard to tolerate
For it speaks of many things
It speaks about
Pain, agony, suffering
And untold hardships
Of innocent millions.
Amidst the serenity
Of natural beauty
Darkness prevails
Narrow self-interest replaces
Virtue of collective existence
Cowardice replaces bravery
Banality of evil reigns supreme
But no voice of sanity
Is heard except silence.
Living terribly
In the times of trouble
I see thousand widows and orphans
Filled with sorrow and suffering in the hearts
Helplessness and fear in reflected in the eyes
I hear no voice for justice for them
Except silence
Across the hills and valley
Oh! Silent hills, silent valley
Surely time will tell you
The cost of your silence.
