Shunning domestic LPG in hotels : Noting the positive steps
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: January 30 2016 -
One of the few good news. More hotels, restaurants and eateries have started opting for commercial LPG refills and this makes sense.
One of the few good news which have come in after The Sangai Express launched the ‘WANTED ! Cooking Gas Not Laughing Gas’ campaign some time back.
The final word is yet to be said for not all the commercial establishments have started using the commercial refills and are still relying on LPG refills which are made available to the people at highly subsidised rates.
A point which was highlighted by the indiscriminate use of domestic LPG refills in the eateries set up at the State level Sangai Festival.
This is where the authority concerned need to be more vigilant and at times even conduct raids to see whether the restaurants, the canteens, hotels and even road side eating joints are using the highly subsidised LPG refills or not. To be vigilant.
This is the need of the hour or else the call of the Government to the well off to voluntarily give up their subsidised LPG connection will fall flat on its face.
What is perhaps needed is for the authority concerned to go on a publicity drive to make everyone aware that the highly subsidised LPG refills cannot be used for commercial purposes and this is the reason why there is something called the commercial refills which are available at all the gas agencies.
The Indian Oil Corporation has also taken due note of the campaign launched by The Sangai Express and accordingly taken up some positive steps. Laudatory steps, one should say. Amongst the steps taken up to ensure adequate supply of LPG to the State, is the decision to accord priority loading to bullet tankers bound for Manipur at the different loading points in Assam.
It was along this line that the decision to allow night time unloading and on Sundays at Sekmai bottling plant was taken and the initiative of the IOC should be taken note of.
The random checking initiated at the offices of distributors on distribution day by the IOC is also significant and this should say something.
Equally note worthy is the decision of the distributors to come together and conduct random checking specially on the day of distribution at the different gas agencies.
That the Executive Director of the IOC at Guwahati has taken up steps to monitor the movements of bullet tankers is another pointer to the efforts taken up to ensure that LPG supply to the State is systemised.
Some concrete steps have obviously been taken up and it is only right that the needed co-operation is extended to the efforts of the authority concerned.
