The AMAND Ladies’ Club (ALC), a women’s wing of the Association of Manipuri Diaspora (AMAND) Pune, organized the unique traditional festival Shajibu Cheiraoba, 2023 with its firm objective to preserve and promote the rich sociocultural heritage of our state Manipur on Sunday, 23rd April 2023 at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Koregaon Park, Pune.
The program not only helped in preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage but also in fostering the spirit of unity and coexistence amongst the Manipuri diaspora in and around Pune city a home far away from home.
The Sunday celebration that marked the parting of the old year and the welcoming of the new year was attended by about 200 people from many Manipuri families and individuals in and around Pune, including Special Guest Dr. Y. Radheshyam Singh, Hon’ble MLA from Manipur and guests from Mumbai Manipuri Assn., Mumbai. The celebration of the aged-old tradition was graced by the presence of women, men, and children with elegant Manipuri traditional attires.

Though the festival is celebrated within a household with a family prayer and worship of the Manipuri deities to bring peace, harmony, prosperity, and safety for their respective family members, the ALC organized this year – a community Shajibu Cheiraoba, 2023 – for the families and individuals of the Manipuri diaspora in the city. The attendees of the gathering were welcomed with an opening speech by the ALC President, Mrs. Pramodini Chanam. This was followed by a floral tribute – paying homage to the Martyrs of 23rd April 1891 Anglo - Manipuri War on this Khongjom Day, 23rd April.
Sponsors of the program namely, 3C IT Solutions and Telecom Pvt Ltd, Nicabs, Puspita’s Artisanal, S. Salon, PC Collections, Universal Book Stall Pune, Meira foods, Zatki Digital Media services Pvt Ltd Guwahati, OK Chicken and Aley Sisters were acknowledged with mementos as a token of appreciation.

The main attraction of the event was the presentation of the khudol pot (gifts) to Pibas (brothers) by the ALC members and seeking of blessings on this auspicious Shajibu Cheiraoba occasion.
The other part of this event was the fun-filled entertainment program such as Children's Game, Musical Chair for Ladies and gents and Thabal Chongba.
Some stalls for indigenous fresh vegetables (yongchak, ngari, maroi, etc.), packaged food items, and traditional handicraft products, etc were also set up during the event.
All the attendees of the program enjoyed the delicious authentic Manipuri cuisine such as Nga thongba, Ooti, Ironba, singju, Champhut, hei thongba, etc., prepared by dedicated volunteers. Ladies in traditional attire performed a Thabal Changoba.
The program of was concluded with a note of sincere thanks and profound appreciation by Mrs. Pushpita Aheibam, Vice President, ALC , to all the generous donors, sponsors, and attendees.
