Entire NER Level One Day Seminar On “Agrotextiles: Holistic Alternative To Enhance Yield And Profitability Of Horticulture And Agriculture”
A one day seminar on “AGROTEXTILES: HOLISTIC ALTERNATIVE TO ENHANCE YIELD AND PROFITABILITY OF HORTICULTURE AND AGRICULTURE” was jointly organized by O/o Textile Commissioner, MOT, GOI & COE-Agrotech, SASMIRA at Auditorium, College of Veterinary Science, Guwahati on 13th February 2015 under the Ministry of Textiles Scheme “Promoting Usage of Agrotextiles in North East Region”.
Program had two primary goals. First to bring all the farmers and other beneficiaries from entire NE region at a common platform wherein participants can exchange ideas of latest farming techniques and get acquaint themselves about the variety of Agrotextiles and its applicability in their context, Second goal was to provide detailed information on financial and technical support is being provided under the scheme “Promotion of Agrotextiles in North Eastern Region” launched by Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.
The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. Sarat Saikia, Chief Scientist, HRS, AAU, in his inaugural address he emphasized the need of modern techniques in horticulture and agriculture production.
Welcome address was given by Shri M. Choudhury, Asst. Director, OIC, ROTXC-Kolkata, GOI. Dr. Manisha Mathur, Dy. Director, SASMIRA, Mumbai had delivered the concept address. Shri Bipul Deka, PI, PFDC, AAU had presented vote of thanks. More than 200 participants including academicians, consultants, NGO representatives, farmers from entire NER and representatives from Agrotech industry had attended the program.
During technical session the application and advantages of various Agrotextiles like shade nets, ground covers, bird protection nets, frost protection cover / Crop cover, Anti-Hail net, pond lining, etc. were deliberated. Contents of the scheme and detailed information on technical and financial support that is being provided under the scheme “Promoting Usage of Agrotextiles in North East Region “was also discussed and explained during the program.
