Topic
Ethnicity, Conflict and Poverty in Manipur
Abstract
The paper addresses the linkages between conflict and poverty in the state of Manipur. It will see how, beginning with the involvement of the external powers, ethnic consciousness gradually developed amongst the people of the state. The purpose is to see how this ethnicity in the recent period gives way to conflict among the various communities of the state and to diagnose how far these affects the economy and society of Manipur, whether directly or indirectly, while not ignoring other innumerable aspects. The focus is to historically analyze the existence of conflicts and to further explore the differential impact upon the people settled in different geographical locations of the state i.e. the valley and in the hills in recent times.
