Normally, a project completes when the tasks are complete in time, the budget is depleted, or a deadline is reached. It is often complained that projects crossed deadlines and deadlines are manipulated again and again. They blame it on environment, blockades, etc.
What went wrong? Why it went wrong again and again? Can't we fix it?
The geographical location, the people, the environment, the blockades… you cannot change them for a project. It is the process to tackle the project that needs to be changed.
The process needs to adapt all such worse conditions. So, I would say that the process went wrong and since no appropriate process is followed, it went wrong again and again. Let me share my experience and see if we can fix it.
Suppose I am building up a football team with every player qualified enough to play. Consider that they don't collaborate to create plans and are not self-organizing. They are not dynamic.
Will you describe the team as a good team? Absolutely not! In this case chance of losing is very high.
In order to build a strong team, they should be high-performing, cross-functional, self-responsible, self-organizing, dynamic, disciplined, collaborative, respectful to each other, and lots more. A gelled team is the most powerful force. We compare such team to the scrum formation.
Such team collaborates and creates plans on the fly to overcome the road blocks and to achieve the milestone. They are highly agile.
Similarly, for every project, we need to organize a strong team with an appropriate process to enforce right work culture and to adapt environments and overcome various road blocks and worse conditions.
The first-order effect is the People. Process and technology are second-order effect on the outcome of a project.
Now a day, projects are often agile since the world is fast, technologies are changing very-very fast, people, environment, and resources are unpredictable. One of the most practiced processes to be followed with such projects is the Scrum Agile Process.
Our team follows "Scrum Agile Process" in most of the projects and it is already proven as the most effective process. I will explain more on next write up on the process.
