Scribe lauds Sharmila effort
- Her fight wasn't easy: Rupchandra
The Telegraph | Guwahati, Aug. 31:
Irom Sharmila has done more for the anti-Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, than any other individual, institu-tion or organisation and she must be given credit for arousing the consciousness of a section of Indian intellectuals and activists towards an issue far removed from their environment, senior Manipuri journalist Yumnam Rupchandra said here today.
Rupchandra, who is the editor-in-chief of a private news channel in Manipur and the general secretary of the Editors' Guild, Manipur, said this while speaking at the Harendra Nath Barua memorial lecture, 2016, on the topic Manipur in the backdrop of AFSPA and Irom Sharmila, organised by the Harendra Nath Barua memorial trust in city today.
