Bharti Infratel announces Scholarship Program for the Physically Challenged Students in Eight Northeastern States
Over 100 students-with-disabilities to benefit in the next two years
Bharti Infratel, one of the largest telecom tower infrastructure providers, today announced the scholarship program for persons-with-disabilities (PWDs) in eight Northern Eastern States. As part of the 'Bharti Infratel Scholarship Program' the company has partnered with Shishu Sarothi, a non-profit organization to implement and identify deserving students.
The primary objective of the program is to provide financial support and aid the differently abled students for pursuing professional or technical education, which in turn will help them get employment ready, and thus self-reliant. The scholarship program is designed to benefit students across all eight states of the Northeast viz: Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Meghalaya.
Announcing the scholarship, D S Rawat, MD & CEO, Bharti Infratel, said, “We are pleased to support this special cause of helping differently abled realize their dreams and aspirations. Today, the cost of accessing higher education often proves to be the primary deterrent among those with disabilities. We are confident that this scholarship will address and provide the much needed support to deserving students.”
Bharti Infratel also works with ‘Bharti Foundation’ to provide free and quality education through the ‘Satya Bharti School Program’ to underprivileged students in rural India and the ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’ to improve livelihood of scores of Indians, such as developing the sanitation facilities in Government schools in rural parts of Punjab by building toilets for girls, wherever no such facilities exist.
About Bharti Infratel:
Bharti Infratel is a provider of telecom tower and related infrastructure sharing services. On a consolidated basis, we are one of the largest PAN India tower infrastructure providers, based on the number of towers owned and operated by Bharti Infratel and Indus, which are represented by Bharti Infratel’s 42% equity interest in Indus. The business of Bharti Infratel and Indus is to acquire, build, own and operate towers and related infrastructure.
In partnership with Bharti Foundation, it also provides free education to underprivileged children in rural areas. Its programs (Satya Bharti Schools, Satya Bharti Learning Centres, and Quality Support Program) presently reach out to over 58,000 children from socially and economically challenged backgrounds, with special focus on the girl child.
Bharti Foundation has engaged multiple partners to construct the toilets that will be durable and will require little maintenance. The ‘Satya Bharti Abhiyan’ is being implemented in collaboration with State Government and local communities.
The foundation is also focused on bringing about a behavioral change through various sanitation campaigns spread over six states in India.
Through this campaign over 41,000 children studying in 254 schools run by the foundation have worked as agents of change to bring awareness amongst the local population.
About Shishu Sarothi:
Shishu Sarothi is a registered non-profit voluntary organization, based in Assam, founded in the year 1987. Shishu Sarothi came into being due to the lack of services and rehabilitative measures available for people with disabilities. The organization aimed at filling this void by constructively proving support and assistance.
