With hopes for peace in our heart, we would like to inform you that Hyderabad Manipuri society and Manipuri student group from University of Hyderabad, Gachibowli, in collaboration with
SAMVAD, a gender forum, English and Foreign Language University;
Ambedkar Students Association;
Students Federation of India;
Dalit Students Union;
Bahujan Students Forum;
Telangana Students Association and
North East Students Forum (UoH)
is organizing a Candle March followed by a few programmes to commemorate 4th November, the day on which Irom Chanu Sharmila started her 10 year long epic fast against the brutal injustice and to end the catastrophic repercussions of the undemocratic and draconian Armed Force Special Power Act 1958 on the people of Manipur and other states of India where the gruesome act has been implemented.
This is the first time in Hyderabad that various organizations in Hyderabad are coming together to do our bit to show support and solidarity towards her undying hope for peace in the troubled land of Manipur as Irom Chanu Sharmila continues with her iconic struggle to reclaim the right to live without fear for the people of Manipur as well as to spread the hope for peace that continues to stand strong in her heart ten years after the fateful encounter which made her give up on lifely pleasures and delve into her silent resistance of fast till death.
The event is aimed at spreading her message through recitation of poems written by Sharmila herself and other poems and songs that are dedicated to her and to bring forth the controversies that constitutes AFSPA 1958 in front of the public eye.
The event will also host a photo exhibition by SAMVAD, a gender forum from English and foreign language university, which will highlight the significance of the issue in the context of present humanitarian concerns. It is in the spirit of humanity and her undying hope for peace that we request your support and to help spread her message for peace to thousands of heart through the electronic media.
Thanks.
