25th (Sunday) September 2011
Organised by Save Democracy, Repeal AFSPA
PUBLIC INFORMATION
A campaign is going to be organised on 25th (Sunday) September 2011 at Delhi to repeal Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA), 1958. A candle light march is being organised at Delhi from 5pm – 8pm respectively. The march is being organised as part of the on-going series of campaigns under the banner of Save Democracy, Repeal AFSPA.
Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) is an inhumane Act that divides the country and need to be repealed. According to this act an officer of the armed forces can fire upon or otherwise use force, even to the causing of death just on the basis of suspicion. The Act also gives power to the armed forces to arrest anyone without a warrant. The Act is only applied to only few parts of the country and violates human rights. Hundreds of women were raped and thousands were killed or disappeared in the last few decades.
