SDSA on prevailing situation in metropolitan cities
Senapati, 24th July, 2014:
To contrive a stratagem to restrain the prevailing discriminatory and illicit conduct against the people of our district studying and working in the metropolitan cities of India by the people in the mainland, a consultative meeting under the aegis of Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) was held in Senapati district head quarter along with the head of the constituent units, leaders and elders of the district. A five member Public Grievances Cell (PGC) was set up to look into various matters confronting our people in the metropolitan cities.
The statement issued by the apex body added, that, it is of great sorrow that we have repeatedly fallen victim to racism, discrimination and intolerance while living in a country who prides herself in claiming, “unity in diversity”. In a matter of just few months, we have encountered the brutal murder of Late Heshu Bernard in Gondia, Maharashtra on 19th November, 2013, Late Wilungbou Chawang in Chirag Delhi, New Delhi on 6th July, 2014 and Late Akha Salouni in Kotla, Mubarakpur, New Delhi on 21st July 2014.
While such gruesome crime is strongly condemned, the State Govt. of Manipur, being a mere spectator in an event like this is unacceptable. It is dishonorable for a State Govt. to have a lackadaisical attitude towards such barbaric act just because the incidents happened to the Nagas. Furthermore, it is a matter of extreme disgust that Manipur Bhavan in Delhi disallowed its facility during those despairing episode.
Peeved over the prolong silence of the elected members, the SDSA stated that, In spite of their loud claims to ensure safety and well being of our people in the capital, our two Members of Parliament (MP) remained mute bystanders and help in any form was never extended. Such has been the deceitful nature of our elected representatives.
It is of great concern that while a lot of cases go unreported, out of 358 cases registered with the Delhi police involving people of the northeast, 40 percent of the cases are associated with the people from the state of Manipur. It is therefore our appeal to the Central Government to look into the matter and ensure maximum security for its citizens and expedite the process of delivering justice by sentencing befitting punishment to the accused under the law on the crimes committed on the victims.
Concluding the statement, the SDSA warned that, if necessary and compelled, democratic agitation will be inevitable to ensure safety and well being of the people.
