Charuangc, which in Ruanglat (language of the Rongmei Naga people) means "social gathering for a cause," was started in the year 2012 in Delhi to provide a platform for the Rongmei people to come together, meet, interact, know each other and build unity and community spirit.
Rongmei (pronounced as Ruangmei) is one of the tribal Naga communities inhabiting the North East Indian states of Manipur, Assam and Nagaland. There are around 6000 Rongmei people living in Delhi pursuing studies and a variety of vocations and fields of profession.
The event of Charuangc is a time for the community to come together and celebrate their heritage, and engage in cultural activities like folk dance, folk song, games and sports, express themselves in traditional attires and partake in traditional cuisines. The event, spearheaded by the theme of sports, also aims at reviving traditional games, and serves as a time for the community to showcase their talents and gifts.
This annual function is enthusiastically attended by the community and it has been a great success in bringing the people together in the otherwise fast paced metropolitan life. The Charuangc is not only an annual function but it is a platform to keep alive the identity, tradition and cultural awareness of the Rongmei people, particularly amongst the newer generations who are immersed in a modern global village of a wide array of other influences.
The 7th Charuangc 2022 for the Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) was organized by Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD), also known as Rongmei Students' Organization Delhi (RSOD).
Shri. Janghemlung Panmei, Flon'ble MIA, 53-Tamenglong AC, Manipur graced the event as Chief Guest, and the guest of honour was Daichui Gangmei, President, Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM).
The Charuangc 2022 Football Championship was bagged by team Chiuluan FC, and the position of First Runners Up went to team Kasuakbut FC. There were individual games for both men and women such as 100m and 400m races, and the 100m race was also conducted in the children's category. Other miscellaneous games for kids such as Balloon Breaking and Spoon Race were held as well.
A lengthy list of donors towards the event from within the community (including the dignitaries invited) has served as the stronghold in the making and execution of it. All in all, the Charuangc 2022 was a grand success, attended by a crowd of around 700-800 who showed prowess in upholding cultural identity and tradition.
And now, may the joy of this Charuangc be instrumental in the spread of love and oneness, and unite us all by continuing to ignite the spirit of community in us. Rongmei Ringsaengcdiu!
