Rise in crime worries citizens
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, March 27:
Crimes against women are rising in the state and women activists and intellectuals expressed concern over it at a daylong workshop organised by Women Action for Development, an NGO, here today.
According to statistics collected by the women's NGO, there have been nine cases of rape, six cases of murder and one case of attempted rape so far this year. There have been 79 cases of crimes against women this year, including rape, murder, domestic violence, cyber crime and trafficking. "This is the tip of the iceberg. These figures are only the cases reported in the media. There are many unreported cases in the interior areas," Sobita Mangsatabam, secretary of WAD, said.
