Ring out the old, ring in the new : New year, new beginning
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: January 01, 2015 -
Ring out the old, ring in the new.
This is about saying bye to a year that has just gone by and saying hi to a new year which has just begun.
An annual ritual it is, but there is definitely something magical about the new year, which is hard to put to ink.
Something like starting life afresh and no wonder each and every new year has become somewhat synonymous with fresh resolutions and to kick out habits which are deemed to be unhealthy and bad for one’s growth, mentally, physically and spiritually.
2015 may just be another year in the calendar and there may not be anything much to cheer about, but as mentioned earlier, there is something magical about the dawn of a new year and definitely 2015 is no different from the previous years.
The same sentiments will be there when 2016 comes.
All the more reason why the beginning or the start of a new year should not be taken lightly.
January 1 is not just another day.
There is always something to look forward to when a new year comes and while this may not always be glorious, the feeling that the beginning of a new year is the ideal time to start life afresh is something universal.
A feeling which cuts across National boundaries and narrow divides which mankind have created down the ages.
And this is what makes the celebration of new year all that more appealing and universal.
Like the previous years, Manipur too will join the rest of the world in ringing in the new year with gusto.
To be sure there will be picnic parties and Church services.
Greetings and wishes will be sent and received as do gifts.
A number of students studying outside the State must have returned home to be with their families for Christmas and new year as well and there is nothing to better family reunion.
If not for anything else then it is at least this, which should be acknowledged.
Students, particularly those going to appear for the board examinations, that is students in Class X and Class XII are more than likely to find time to join their families and catch up with friends and join the festivities that come along with the coming of a new year.
This is the spirit of new year and its beauty lies in the ability of mankind to acknowledge this innate quality.
New year will also be all that more remarkable if some thoughts are given to the less fortunate souls, the children who do not have anyone to call their own or a place they can call home.
Time for all to say goodbye to all the sad and unhappy moments and look forward to a new life.
Happy new year to all the readers and patrons of The Sangai Express.
