Challenging Positions to Create Global Professional Capacity in
Disaster Risk Reduction
The Jamsetji Tata Centre for Disaster Management, School of Habitat Studies, at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, is looking for suitable candidates, with requisite academic background and experience in the field, for several positions in a project to develop and deliver an on-line disaster management training programme that would be available globally.
The proposed programme is scheduled to go online in late 2012. Those selected would be involved, together with the current
faculty, in developing course material and supervise/assist in rendering the course material into a form suitable for online delivery. Suitable candidates would continue as course instructors for the actual delivery of the course and related operational/maintenance tasks.
The qualifying requirements are:
o Ability to develop course material related to disaster management and/or foundational and background courses in allied areas.
o A minimum of 5 years of experience in disaster management practice, training and/or education OR in allied areas relevant to disaster management. Prior experience in
online/distance education would be an added advantage.
o The applicants may possess a basic degree in engineering, medicine, geology, geography, social sciences, remote sensing and GIS, media and communication with special reference to new media, public administration, social work, or other disciplines. Subsequent formal training in disaster management or allied fields is highly desirable.
These requirements may be relaxed in the case of exceptional candidates.
The remuneration of the selected applicants would range from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 70,000 per month commensurate with background qualification, academic qualifications and experience and field experience following Institute norms. One or more candidates, with exceptional qualification and experience, may be offered the positions of Senior Program Manager with higher compensation.
The appointment initially would be for a two-year or three-year term depending on qualification and experience, and in suitable cases is likely to be extended further. However continuation to the full term of the first appointment would be contingent on a strong positive evaluation at the end of the first year.
Interested candidates should provide full details of academic qualifications, experience (both academic and field – also name and address of person to whom you reported to in each of the prior positions held), publications including peer-reviewed papers, working papers and reports and the names of three references with full addresses and all contact details.
The candidates should also request their referees to write independently to the Institute at the email address given below.
Interested candidates may send in their application by email to dm-online-project(at)tiss(dot)edu by 21st January, 2012.
Their referees should also be requested to electronically send their reference letters to this same email address, with the name of the candidate clearly referred to in the subject line.
