ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in the pay scale of Rs.12,000-420-18,300.

Essential Qualification/Experience :

For Post Graduates in SOCIAL WORK - Good academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work. Evidence of being actively engaged in (1) research or (2) innovation in teaching method or (3) production of teaching materials. Candidates who join from outside the University system, shall also possess at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade of ?B' in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E and F at the Master's Degree level. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the Master's level for the SC/ST category candidates, and to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have passed their Master's Degree prior to 19 th September 1991 . About eight years experience of teaching and/or research which may include three years of Ph.D. research, provided that at least five of these years were as Assistant Professor or in an equivalent position OR ten years of experience in field practice and professional publication based on work experience, in training and/or field instruction. Experience in consultation and documentation.

For Post Graduates in SOCIAL SCIENCES - Good academic record with a Doctoral Degree or equivalent published work. In addition to these, candidates who join from outside the University system, shall also possess at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade of ?B' in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E and F at the Master's Degree level. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the Master's level for the SC/ST category candidates, and to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have passed their Master's Degree prior to 19 th September 1991 . About eight years experience of teaching and/or research which may include three years of Ph.D. research, and has made some mark in the areas of scholarship as evidenced by quality of publications, contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses and curricula.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR in the pay scale of Rs.8,000-275-13,500.

Essential Qualification/Experience :

Good academic record with at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade of ?B' in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E and F at the Master's Degree level, in the relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent Degree from a foreign University. A relaxation of 5% will be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the Master's level for the SC/ST category candidates, and to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have passed their Master's Degree prior to 19 th September 1991 . Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, candidates should have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lecturers conducted by the UGC or similar test accredited by the UGC. NET shall remain the compulsory requirement for appointment as Lecturer for those with post-graduate degree. However, the candidates having the Ph.D. Degree in the concerned subject are exempted from NET.

A. School of Management and Labour Studies

The TISS has pioneered teaching and research in the area of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations for over four decades. The School of Management and Labour Studies comprises of centres to facilitate teaching, research, training and consultancy on (i) Human Resources Management and Labour Relations, (ii) Labour Studies, (iii) Social Entrepreneurship, and (iv) Social and Organisational Leadership Development. It offers Master's Degree programs in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations, Globalisation and Labour, and Social Entrepreneurship; and a Diploma program in Human Resources Management.

The School is seeking applications for the following positions on permanent basis:

A. 1 Associate Professor (1 post) UR
Ph.D. in Management, Psychology, Economics and Sociology with strong publications record.

A.2 Assistant Professor (1 post) UR
Master's Degree in Management, Economics and Psychology. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.

B. School of Social Work

The School of Social Work conducts the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Social Work program with specialization numerous focal areas. This program aims to create committed, conscientious and competent professionals to address causes and conditions of poverty, marginalization and exclusion.

The School is seeking applications for the following positions on permanent basis:

B. 1 Associate Professor (1 post) UR
Ph.D. in Social Work and demonstrated high quality publications.
B. 2 Assistant Professor (1 post) OBC + (1 post Temporary) UR
Master's Degree in Social Work. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.

C. School of Social Sciences
The School of Social Sciences offers two Master's Degree programs in Education (Elementary), and Development Studies, and will introduce two new Master's Degree programs in Women and Development, and Counseling in collaboration with School of Social Work from June 2009. The faculties for this school are drawn from a broad spectrum of disciplinary backgrounds. The School is seeking applications for the following positions on permanent basis:
Specific Qualification/Experience & number of posts:
C.1 Associate Professor (1 post) SC-1
Ph.D. in Anthropology, Economics, Education, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work and others with strong publications record.
C. 2 Assistant Professor (2 posts) post 1-OBC, post 2-UR
Post 1: Master's Degree in Psychology with specialization in counseling. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D., publications and experience in teaching/counseling.
Post 2: Master's Degree in Economics. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.
C. 3 Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policies (CSSE&IP)

TISS has been selected as one of the universities by the University Grants Commission to set up a Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policies (CSSE&IP ) at its Mumbai campus . Objectives of the CSSE&IP are: Conceptualizing, contextualizing and understanding discrimination, exclusion from opportunities and habitat based on caste, ethnicity, religion and location.

The Centre is seeking applications for the following positions for a period of five years, but likely to continue on permanent basis:

C.3 (i) Associate Professor (1 post) UR
Ph. D in Political Science, Anthropology, History, Social Work, Economics and Law with strong publications record.
C.3 (ii) Assistant Professor (1 post) UR
Master's Degree in Anthropology, Economics, Education, Geography, History, Planning, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Law and Statistics . Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.
C.3 (iii) Research Associate (1 post) UR , Rs.12000 plus HRA
PhD / Post Graduate Degree with 5 years experience in research, with evidence of leadership in research and qualitative work.
C.4 (iv) Research Assistant (2 posts) UR , Rs.5500-9000
Graduate with 5 years experience or Post Graduate. Age not exceeding 35 years.
D. School of Health Systems Studies.
The School of Health Systems Studies conducts three Masters' programs in Health Administration, Hospital Administration, and Public Health to develop a cadre of professional managers in the health sector. The School is seeking applications for the following positions on permanent basis:
Specific Qualification/Experience & number of posts:
D. 1 Associate Professor (1 post) ST
Ph.D. in public health/ hospital/health management or in any of the Social Sciences (with focus on health) and with specialization in community health or health/hospital HR/ financial management or health economics or health policy. Those with some knowledge of hospital/health industries' functions and services or with knowledge of health financing will have preference.
D. 2 Assistant Professor (1 post) OBC
Master's Degree in public health/ hospital/health management or in any of the Social Sciences (with focus on health) and with specialization in community health or health/hospital HR/ financial management or health economics or health policy. Those with Ph.D. and some knowledge of hospital/health industries' functions and services or with knowledge of health financing, experience and publications will have preference.
E. School of Rural Development, Rural Campus, Tuljapur,Dist. Osmanabad.

TISS has its School of Rural Development (SRD) at Tuljapur, near Solapur, located at about 400 kms from Mumbai. The School of Rural Development has (i) an undergraduate program in Social Work with specialization in Rural Development (B.A. Honours); (ii) strong outreach programs in natural resources management, health, education, water and sanitation, and other areas. TISS has been working in several villages in Osmanabad district for over 10 years; (iii) training in various aspects of rural development; (iv) research and policy advocacy.

The School of Rural Development wants to recruit to the following positions on permanent basis to strengthen its teaching, research, training, field action and policy advocacy initiatives.

Specific Qualification/Experience & number of posts:
E. 1 Assistant Professor (1 post) UR
Master's Degree in Social Work, English, Anthropology, Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, and Rural Development. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.
Centre for Media and Cultural Studies , (CM&CS)
The CM&CS is an independent centre of TISS, engaged in media production, teaching, research and dissemination. Through its programs, the Centre has been working towards a critical perspective on post-colonial culture, development and the media. CMCs is offering Master's Degree program in Media and cultural Studies. In order to sustain these new initiatives, TISS is seeking well qualified and committed personnel for the following position in the Centre on tenure for a period of five years:
Specific Qualification/Experience & number of posts:
F. 1 Assistant Professor (1 post) OBC
Master's Degree in Communication/Mass Communication/ Social Sciences / Journalism. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.
Jamsetji Tata Centre for Disaster Management (JTCDM), Mumbai Campus.
TISS established JTCDM in May 2006 to consolidate six decades of work in disaster management with an objective of preparing skilled professionals, conducting disaster research and influencing the dominant discourse and practices in disaster management. JTCDM offers a Maters' program in Disaster Management and a Post Graduate Diploma on Psychosocial Care and Support in Disaster Management, conducts a Public Lecture Series, the JTCDM Working Paper Series and initiated an Annual International Roundtable Conference. JTCDM has a state of art GIS laboratory and works with a number of universities and organizations within and outside India . JTCDM has two positions for appointment on tenure of 5 years, each at the level of Associate Professor and Assistant Professor.
Specific Qualification/Experience & number of posts:
G. 1 Associate Professor (2 posts) UR
Ph. D. in Public Health, Architecture, Planning, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Sociology, Psychology and Social Work with experience in teaching, research and practice in disaster management areas, and a strong publications record.
G.2 Assistant Professor (1 post) UR
Master's Degree in Public Health, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Planning, Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Preference will be given to candidates with Ph. D., publications and experience.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:

The Institute reserves the right to: (a) relax any of the requirements with reference to age and experience in exceptional cases and/or in the case of persons already holding comparable positions, on a regular basis, in a University/research institution of repute, b) invite persons for interview who may not have applied for as per the above procedure, (c) to fill up vacancies rising, (d) not to fill up any of the vacancies advertised; (i) Since applications received may be short listed, merely possessing the prescribed qualifications and the requisite experience would not entitle a person to be called for an interview; (ii) No queries or correspondence regarding issue of call letters for interview/selection of candidates for the post will be entertained at any stage and canvassing will lead to the candidate being debarred from consideration for the post; (iii) Reservation and relaxation in age and work experience for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates are applicable as per Government of India rules; (iv) Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed IInd Class Rail fare, to and fro, by the shortest route, on production of railway tickets. (v) SC/ST candidates will be given free accommodation (lodging only) in the hostel for overnight stay subject to the availability of rooms at the time of interview, if requested in advance. The crucial date of determining the age limit and length of experience shall be 29-08-2008 , i.e., the closing date for receipt of applications. Selected candidates are liable to be posted in any of the three campuses of the Institute. Persons in employment should apply through their employer, or attach ?No Objection Certificate' without which no applications will be entertained under any condition.

The prescribed application form, along with the details of qualifications, experience and other requirements prescribed for the above posts can be obtained from the Deputy Registrar (Personnel & Administration), either in person between 10.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. on working days (Monday to Friday) OR on written request accompanied by a self-addressed stamped (Rs.25/-) envelope (23 x 8 cms), superscribed ?Request for Faculty recruitment application form?. The Demand Draft (Account Payee Only) should be drawn in favour of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai . The bank drafts should be valid for six months. No Postal Orders will be accepted. For SC/ST/PH candidates, application forms will be supplied free of cost on production of valid caste certificate. Only application forms prescribed by the Institute will be accepted. If a candidate desires to apply for more than one post, he/she should make a separate application for each post with fee. The candidate should clearly note that the Institute would not be responsible for non-receipt of their application or any delay in receipt thereof on any account.

Applications on plain paper or without the following enclosures or incomplete applications will be rejected:
* Supporting documents (degree, diploma, certificates, mark-sheets and testimonials) of qualifications and experience.
* Passing certificate of NET examination conducted by the UGC.
* Five sets of each (only three best) articles/papers/books published/papers presented at seminars/conferences, in the last five years. Applicants to the post of Associate Professor may please note that this is an essential requirement, and hence five copies of each of the above must be forwarded in advance with the application.
* Certificate showing the date of birth.
* SC/ST/OBC/PH certificate.
* No Objection Certificate from the employer.

Those who do not have the required marks/grade or the specific field of specialization, need not apply. The completed applications together with copies of certificates and the required enclosures, should reach the Deputy Registrar (Pers. & Admn.) on or before 29-08-2008 .
