INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL METEOROLOGY
Dr. Homi Bhabha Road, Pashan, Pune 411008
(An autonomous Institute under Ministry of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India)
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is an autonomous Institute fully funded and administered by the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. It functions as a National Centre for Research in Tropical Meteorology and has scientifically and academically stimulating environment for research in applied and fundamental aspects of ocean-land-atmosphere interactions in the tropics.
The Institute derives its strength from co-existence of a group of scientists on theoretical and modeling studies together with a large group of scientists on diagnostic studies and field observations. It has excellent infrastructural facilities
such as high-end computers, library, workshop, experimental laboratories and support for field experiments. It has very strong
interlinks with the India Meteorological Department, the University of Pune and several other relevant national and international
organizations. It has been recognized by several Indian Universities as a Centre of Advanced Research for carrying out work
leading to the award of M.Sc., M. Tech. and Ph.D. Degrees in Atmospheric Sciences and allied subjects.
IITM has launched some major programs on modeling for prediction of seasonal mean monsoon and extended range prediction of active and break spell involving global coupled ocean atmosphere models. In addition to these activities, a Centre for Climate Change Research (CCCR) is also coming up at IITM. To cater these modeling needs a high performance computing Centre is being set up. Two High performance computers (HPCs), one with peak performance of 2.5 TF and another with 8 TF are already in place. Another high capacity HPC will be acquired for the CCCR.
In order to assist and coordinate the IITM scientists to achieve high performance computing oriented research on dynamical modeling, IITM is looking for recruiting talented candidates of Indian origin for the various positions at the Institute. These positions are purely on contractual basis on a fixed monthly salary for a period of two years and are not eligible for any benefits available to regular employees of the Institute and also not count for service benefits.
