Repentance: On looking back
James Watson *
Sorrow, pain, and disappointment have come over me,....
My peace of mind is a far cry.....
I have left it deep in the caverns of yore.....
Lady luck and dame fortune have deserted me,....
Only regret has lung to me like a true friend.....
Gone are the days when sunshine brought brightness,....
Gone are the times when cool breeze gave me tingles.....
I am dead just that I am not a doornail.....
Have I met medusa's gaze that I have turned lifeless?....
Oh! How I wish I could fly though wingless!....
Alas! I'd gone too far; though I am not a Marvell,....
Too much trust did I put in his carpe diem.....
The seeds of regret have now sprouted....
And I am already eating the fruits it bore.....
Oh! Can I not look back and pause awhile?....
I demand not my childhood days again,....
I plea just a reminiscent, a memory;....
So I could think of them and rejoice that I once was so.....
Gone are the days, gone are my mirthful days,....
Only tears and sorrow have remained true to my heart!....
