Regarding rescue of 21 children from Imphal Airport
Imphal the 15th July, 2016
No. 1/22/2016-MCPCR(Child Trafficking)
A General Appeal from MCPCR
MCPCR would like to clarify and appeal to all concerned regarding the incident of rescue of 21 children from Imphal International Airport yesterday the 14th July, 2016.
I) That, the rescue operation was carried out with a solemn objective to check and prevent Child Trafficking, since Manipur has been a fertile source for human trafficking testified with reported repatriation cases of around 500 children in the last 7 years. However a large number of children and girls have been remained untraceable, hence exact figure of already trafficked children remain unknown. So, it was not against any particular religious community or minority group in any manner.
II) The rescue operation was conducted in compliance with the Hon’ble Supreme Court’s directions passed on dated 01/09/2010 in the matter of Exploitation of children in orphanages in the State of Tamil Nadu V/s UOI and Ors., concerning large scale transportation of children from one State to another and its compliance, and exercising the power and functions as vested under Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, and The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2011.
III) It is the bounded duty of every law enforcing agency, government departments, media, civil society organizations, and every responsible citizen of India to ensure the rights and providing co-operation to State’s Child Rights Commissions as and when the situation arises. This time Police and Anti Human Trafficking Unit were greatly assisting the MCPCR in carrying out of the task. However dragging the names of CISF and Airport Authority of India in an unfair way is unwarranted and irrelevant news.
IV). MCPCR is trying at its level best to complete necessary verification from Maharashtra and Gujarat states for speedy disposal of the case. It is through every one’s co-operation the MCPCR could protect the undeniable rights of the children.
