Refresher Course in Earth Sciences and Geography held at NEHU
A three-week Refresher Course for college and university teachers on the theme “Perspectives on Hazards and their Management” organised by the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, NEHU was inaugurated on 28th November, 2016 by Prof. Henry Lamin, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong. The function was presided over by Prof. D. K. Nayak, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences.
Prof. Henry Lamin, while speaking as the chief guest of the function mentioned that the theme of the programme is highly appropriate in the present situation and emphasised the need to educate communities and organise various kinds of awareness to reduce disaster losses. He was impressed to see the participants, apart from Meghalaya and other North Eastern States, from as far as Maharashtra, Haryana and West Bengal who are attending the Refresher Course at North-Eastern Hill University.
Prof. Rakesh Mohan, Director UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, emphasised in his speech the importance of Refresher Courses in general for career advancement of teachers, but most importantly, he pointed out that after attending this course, whatever updates in their professional knowledge they have received, should be passed on to their students at their respective colleges and departments.
The other person who spoke at the occasion was Prof. Sunil Kumar De, Course Coordinator of the Refresher Course in Earth Sciences and Geography.
