Rally demands exclusion of villages in valley areas

A massive rally carried out Sunday in Imphal West district drew the attention of Manipur government and Committee of re-organisation of district administrative and police boundary constituted by the government for exclusion of villages in the valley areas in the formation of Sadar Hills district.
Many villages located at the foothills bordering with Imphal East and West districts are currently under Sadar Hills sub-division of Senapati district. Some of the villages are settled by tribal while many of them by Meitei or scheduled caste.
The rally participated by around 5000 villagers of Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou, Awang Sekmai, Phayeng, Tairenpokpi, Khurkhul, Kadangband, Kangchup and Koutruk kicked start from Kangchup in Imphal West and marched on to Imphal-Kangchup road upto Lamshang where a police team blocked them before reaching Imphal. The rally was organised by Land Protection Committee of Sekmai Assembly Constituency.
