Rain
Lalit Rajkumar *
You make Life live
Providing water to the living;
Fishes in the drying ponds are joyous of your arrival
Hoping you’ll again enlarge their aquapad.
Frogs sing merrily at your coming
Realizing their breeding season is not far away.
At night you lull us irrespective of age
For yours is the best lullaby
Mother Nature can provide for us.
For the poor you are a curse from God
Their multi-holed roof flood their floor,
All their food become watery and tasteless
Thanks to their unimaginable roof
The mud-walls also glee at their misfortune
Showing off its bambooed teeth.
The roadside vegetable-vendors run
Helter-skelter for shelter
With a thousand curses on you
While the germs play with you gamely
For they are well adapted to cope with you.
Above all, the happiest lot are the fire fighters
At your arrival anniversary that
Rest is atlast theirs in the offing
Forgetting that an overdose of you
Can make them even busier!
