RIST Talk : Intermolecular Casimir-Polder forces
Date : 22nd August, 2014
INVITATION FOR RIST POPULAR TALK
You are cordially invited to attend the monthly popular talk series organized by the RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (RIST), IMPHAL
Topic: Intermolecular Casimir-Polder forces
By: Priyadarshini Thiyam
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden
Abstract:
Casimir-Polder forces are forces existing between neutral molecules or bodies. Casimir first derived this force as due to change of zero-point energies of the system; i.e., due to fluctuations of electromagnetic fields in the system. The present work focuses on determining this force in molecular geometries following a semi-classical technique using Green’s functions.
