Quarry threat to Manipur WW II relic
- A sword and ring inscription on a hill-slope boulder at Laimaton faces damage
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, Dec. 14:
A World War II relic on a hill slope in Manipur’s Churachandpur district may be lost forever as residents of a nearby village have decided to turn the area into a stone quarry.
Lack of awareness by village authority and “indifference” by the state government, put together, may result in permanent damage to one of the battlefields between Japanese soldiers and Allied Forces, a hill slope at Laimaton, about 38km from Imphal, which has a giant boulder with the carving of a sword, like a Samurai encircled by a ring.
